Free online WebP converter service to reduce the size of images without losing quality
The .webp file extension is a file format developed by Google to reduce the size of images without sacrificing quality for disk space. WebP images are designed to speed up the Internet while maintaining quality, allowing you to use high-quality photos on websites while reducing the amount of data transferred over the network.
WebP images that use lossless compression are 26% smaller than PNG files. And WebP images that use lossy compression are 34% smaller than JPEG files with an equivalent structural similarity index (SSIM).
WebP can store both lossy and lossless images. If you are converting a lossy format (such as JPG) to WebP, then there is little point in choosing lossless compression. But if you are converting a lossless format (such as PNG), then you can choose between WebP lossless and lossy. Remember that a lossless compressed image will take up more space.
WebP supports transparency (alpha channel).
In terms of technical capabilities, including the degree of compression, the HEIC format is superior to WebP. But the advantage of WebP is its wider support. For example, photos in WebP format can be displayed by all modern web browsers, while the HEIC format is not supported by any web browser.
